Fashion Show Criteria & Rules

The “Official” Call for Entries for
FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE … GIVING FASHION NEW LIFE.

This fashion design competition is about promoting the ideals of sustainable resource use, achieving a small eco-footprint, and showcasing local style and design talent in Utah. We also want to encourage the revamping and restyling of clothes that are for all intents and purposes at the end of their life (i.e. waste). Reincarnate the out-of-date!!

Designers are also encouraged to document their artistic process, using various forms of media such as photography, video, and written descriptions of their inspiration and source of materials. A prize for best documentation will be awarded (see below). The purpose of this is to preserve the memory of the artistic processes and for future use in additional Leonardo projects at the artist’s discretion.

Criteria for Submission and Judging-

Important Dates and Deadlines
●An entry form must be received via email received by February 10, 2008, Please send email entry forms to celiapeterson@gmail.com
●Designers must attend an official information session on February 12th at 7:30pm. The place will be announced soon.
●All submitted outfits must include a description of the recycled content of the design of no more than 300 words. Writing assistance can be provided by contacting Celia Peterson at the above email address or 435-753-4193 (phone).
●Designers must be present at all fittings, the rehearsal and the Fashion Show. Please see the “Important Dates” section below.

Design and Materials Requirements
●Each submission must consist of a complete outfit. All designs must use at least 50% recycled materials. Recycled materials may be obtained at thrift shops, or otherwise previously used clothing purchased at least three years ago.
●Additional sustainable materials, such as organic fabrics and fair-trade materials will be noticed with favor in judging.

Models
●Designers may use their own models. However, models must be approved by Ms. Charity Lund. Please contact her at charity@heriocrealty.com or 801-865-4322
●Designers may also use trained models provided by contest organizers. If you would like to use an experienced model to wear your designs on the runway, please contact Charity Lund.
If official contest models are to be used, designs must be constructed in standard size 6 or 8 for women’s styles, men’s 42L, 32-34, children 5/6.

●Enjoyment and personal rewards!! We hope that this contest will inspire a new mode of fashion. Not only will involvement in this competition encourage the use of sustainable materials, but it will also bring considerable public exposure, priceless professional and networking experience, and hopefully new friendships for participants that will last a lifetime.

●Best overall fashion design.
●Best fashion line (a fashion line must consist of at least three outfits).
