We're not the only ones...

Hello Designers!
Remember to submit your entry forms (see previos post "Here's How to Enter") by THIS SUNDAY, FEBRAUR 10TH!! So far, we have several fabulous local designers involved, both professional and amateur. Our model castings have resulted in a gorgeous pool of talent for designers to choose from. But one of our mottoes is "the more the merrier", so join in!!

Meanwhile, it looks as if the trend we're setting ;) has caught on at NY Fashion Week:

"Top designers — Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney, Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein, Givenchy, Versace and more — were asked to create one-of-a-kind creations using only sustainable materials. The trusted eco-fabrics bamboo, hemp and organic cotton had starring roles, but they shared the catwalk with lesser-known natural materials like PLA (a polyester alternative made from corn), Lyocell (made from wood pulp cellulose) and abaca (a hemplike material made from the leaf stalks of a Philippine banana plant). There was something downright thrilling about witnessing the eco-transformation of some of the world’s most renowned designers. Each look held the distinctive style and tone of the artist who created it, simply reconfigured in earth-friendly fabrics.
Some of my favorites: Stella McCartney’s long, breezy summer dress constructed from organic cotton; Rodarte’s form-fitting cocktail dress created from an abaca/cotton/silk combination; Maison Martin Margiela’s ball gown crafted from three vintage wedding dresses and a vintage bustier (reusing and recycling is another eco-aware design method); and Versace’s show-stopping (literally — it was the closing piece) evening gown made from hemp and silk. Additional Inspiration and Resources

Additional Inspiration and Resources:

Sustainability focuses on the innovative and efficient use of economic, social and environmental resources in a way such that we do not deplete those resources for future generations. In addition, it is important that as products are created, people are not subject to cruel or unfair practices. http://www.naturalstep.org/com/What_is_sustainability/

Fashion Show Criteria & Rules

The “Official” Call for Entries for
FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE … GIVING FASHION NEW LIFE.

This fashion design competition is about promoting the ideals of sustainable resource use, achieving a small eco-footprint, and showcasing local style and design talent in Utah. We also want to encourage the revamping and restyling of clothes that are for all intents and purposes at the end of their life (i.e. waste). Reincarnate the out-of-date!!

Designers are also encouraged to document their artistic process, using various forms of media such as photography, video, and written descriptions of their inspiration and source of materials. A prize for best documentation will be awarded (see below). The purpose of this is to preserve the memory of the artistic processes and for future use in additional Leonardo projects at the artist’s discretion.
